Karl Busby, salesperson extraordinaire, exited the
plane and entered the terminal. In one hand, he held his overnight bag and in the
other a catalog of Tru-fit Footwear (for men, women, and children).
The small island
of Coro Indca lies in the South
Pacific many miles west of the Hawaiian Islands.
The natives are happy and friendly. Though they still cling to their tribal
ways, they’ve adopted many mainland ideas and entered the modern-age.
At the taxi stand outside the air-terminal, Karl
noticed none of the cabdrivers wore shoes. They were barefoot, as were everyone
else. Everywhere he looked, no one wore shoes. Everyone went barefoot.
At the hotel, again, from the desk clerk to the
bellhop, everyone went barefoot.
Up in his hotel room, Karl phoned his main office.
“I’m taking the next flight out of here. This was a
waste of time. These people don’t even wear sandals, never mind shoes.
At that same moment, Beth Sanders, salesperson
extraordinaire for Comfy-Cozy Shoes, got off the plane, and took a taxi to the
hotel. Up in her hotel room, Beth phoned her main office.
“Send me shoes, sandals, and sneakers. Send me
hundreds of pairs in every size, color, and style. This place is wide
open!”
